I don’t know about you but I just LOVE seeing movie adapatations of books that I’ve read. But one major thing that makes or breaks the film for me is if they got the cast right for the characters…
City of Bones:
Right: Clary
I think they got Clary perfect with Lily Collins! I was over the moon but then……then I saw Jace…
Wrong: Jace
This meme just sums it up for me! I actually genuinely wanted Alex Pettyfer (top) to play Jace he was the first actor that sprang to mind when I heard it was going to be a film. But no…..they cast Jamie Campbell Bower…
And the biggest joke of all is that Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are a genuine couple! Maybe I’m not seeing the attraction here? But I’m pretty sure she’s out of his league…
Maze Runner (Scorch Trials):
Right: Minho and Thomas
In my eyes these two guys were cast to perfection! And in all honestly I fancy them both just a little π
Wrong: Brenda
I was so excited about finding out who was gonna be cast as Brenda. Rosa Salazar just didn’t look right to me. My suggestion would have been Alexandra Daddario from Percy Jackson but that’s just me…
Divergent:
Right: Tris
I wasn’t completely sold on Shailene Woodley but when I saw her in the film I think she really pulled it off!
Wrong: Christina
Christina was all wrong lookswise I would personally have chosen Karidja TourΓ© from Girlhood…
Fifty Shades of Grey
Right: Christian Grey
I loved Jamie Dornan in The Fall and when I heard he was playing Christian Grey I was thrilled! He played a sexually charged psychopath in The Fall so….you do the maths – okay so maybe his northern irish accent slipped through occassionally but was anyone really focusing on his -ahem- accent
Wrong: Anastasia Steele
Dakota Johnson was just all wrong for me BUT she won me over because of her seriiouuss bravery in this role. I mean, how many girls would get butt naked for that amount of time knowing full well everyone you went to school with is gonna be sitting in the frint row on release day. ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»ππ»
I would have chosen someone like….
Considering that Fifty Shades was originally Twilight fanfiction and the fact that Kristen Stewart was the perfect Bella in my eyees (though I’m not generally a fan of her outside of Twilight….). I don’t think she should have done it but someone closer to her looks would have been right for Anastasia.
Harry Potter
Right: Snape
I think they got a lot of characters right in Harry Potter including the main three but could any of them have walked straight out of the book and into the film like Snape did? There wasn’t a single greasy strand of hair on his head that was wrong
Wrong: Ginny
Ginny was so wrong and I think it was because they cast her so early and they didn’t know the part she was gonna play in the end…could they have recast her? Probably. But did they? Not even a little…
Here’s my choice Rachel Hurd Wood from Peter Pan
I actually hated both Clary and Jace in the film DX The only one I think was right was Simon, lol. I totally agree with the Maze Runner, though. I hated Brenda in the film!

Yeah Simon was perfect! And I thought they got Magnus really right too!
You know what else they got sooooo wrong in scorch trials….the cranks! Why did they make them zombies π

I actually liked the cranks XD I know that they got them wrong in the scope of the book, but movie wise, it was genius. The cranks weren’t scary to me in the book, they were just crazy – but the film zombies evoked World War Z status fear

Yeah they were definitely like the world war Z zombies that’s so true! Oh no I loved them in the book they creeped me out with the weird way they talked!
“Rose took my nose I suppose…” Haha

That is true : D they were creepy in their own ways. I loved the fact that Clary for the tv show was in Scorch Trials

Oh my gosh! I absolutely, most definitely canNOT agree with you on Tris. Nope. Not for a second. I detested Shailene Woodley as Tris, completely and wholeheartedly. She didn’t do the character justice (not that I liked anyone cast in that movie to be honest. Maybe outside of Miles Teller as Peter). Frankly, I think that Willow Shields would have made an AMAZING Tris had she not been wrapped up in Hunger Games production. *sigh*
And I love the cast of Harry Potter. I think it’s amazing. Though, I will agree that the actress didn’t grow into her character as well as the others did (but she also had a smaller role to build off of in the first few movies). Even so, I adore Rachel Hurd-Wood. She’s gorgeous! LOVED LOVED LOVED her in Peter Pan (and Jeremy Sumpter *dies* :p).
I haven’t seen ‘The Scorch Trials’ yet, but just the face of the girl playing Brenda is WRONG! Rawr! I also didn’t like that they picked Kaya Scodelario to play Teresa. NOT what I imagined at all. Nope. I don’t think she did a good job (ignoring the fact that they totally altered the movie from the book. GRRR!!)
Okay. I’ll stop with my movie rants. I’m not allowed to have this discussion normally, but I HAD to comment. :p

Haha I love how passionately you feel about this! I definately agree with you on Theresa though I wasn’t that keen on her in the book so I felt that for me because she’s dislikeable as Theresa in the films it works for me haha!

Honestly, from the perspective of matching the character’s description and demeanor in the early books, Alan Rickman seems like a terrible choice for Snape . . . he just owned the role and the character so well that Snape retroactively became him–I think even for JK Rowling, as Snape became more and more Rickmanish over the course of the series.

Haha I dunno I feel like he was always that way in the books!

I totally disagree with you on the whole Clary/Jace thing. For me, Jamie Campbell Bower IS Jace. I thought Lily Collins played Clary well but she didn’t look right and wasn’t geeky enough for me.

Fair enough! I know a lot of people really love him as Jace but maybe just for my personal taste he’s not attractive enough in my eyes π

I didn’t like either casting for 50 Shades but I was totally nodding my head for most of these!

Yeah I also felt that Rita Ora as Mia was so random and annoying….

I wish they could have recasted Ginny. I was not feeling the actor at all and the same goes for Jace. My friends thought the actor was swoon worthy, but I think not ha ha.

Yeah I would have happily accepted a recast on her haha I wouldn’t have batted an eye!
Yeah I think people are so divided on Jace they either love him or hate him! But I just can’t see the attraction!

Minho and Thomas! β€ I love the casting of the Maze Runner in general, I thought they were all spot-on. I haven't seen Scorch Trials though, so I'm not sure how I feel about Rosa Salazar. I agree with you regarding Christina, she wasn't what I expected at all, her acting felt a bit flat to me, not as spunky as the book Christina XD

This is a cool breakdown of actors chosen for adaptations.

I agree with Christina from Divergent. I don’t think Zoe Kravitz is a good actress AT ALL. (Except in Mad Max, but I loved everything about that movie.)

Me too!!! He was so awesome. I told my boyfriend that I want war music like that with me at ALL TIMES. That one close-up of his face? Man, so freaky but so great.

I have to agree with you on Tris for Divergent. We saw the actress portray really well a meek teenage girl raised to be pacifist turn into a real badass onscreen. I even liked Four.
In my opinion involving the 2013 adaptation of ‘The Great Gatsby’, they got the perfect casting of Leonardo de Caprio as Jay Gatsby. He gives the perfect amount of carisma, charm, and dignity from the book. He even makes me hear Leonardo de Caprio’s voice whenever I read the book. And obviously, you can tell the actor had a ton of fun with the role while keeping faithful to the original source material.
However, I didn’t like Toby Maguire as Nick Carraway, since I saw more of Peter Parker than another character.

I completely agree with the Great Gatsby! Leo was amaIng! I acutally hadn’t read the book before the film but it inspired me to read it and all I could see was Leo as Gatsby!
