Harry Potter And The Cursed Child…Anyone else super excited?!!

J.K Rowling has written a stage show! And I am sooooo excited about this!

Here’s the description from the website:

Based on an original new story by J.K. Rowling, Jack Thorne and John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a new play by Jack Thorne will receive its world premiere in London’s West End at the Palace Theatre in the summer of 2016.

Featuring a cast of over 30, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the eighth story in the Harry Potter series and the first official Harry Potter story to be presented on stage. Written by Jack Thorne and directed by Olivier and Tony award winner John Tiffany, the play brings together some of the most exciting talent working in the theatre today.

It was always difficult being Harry Potter and it isn’t much easier now that he is an overworked employee of the Ministry of Magic, a husband and father of three school-age children.

While Harry grapples with a past that refuses to stay where it belongs, his youngest son Albus must struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child will be directed by John Tiffany with movement by Steven Hoggett, set designs by Christine Jones, costumes by Katrina Lindsay, music by Imogen Heap, lighting by Neil Austin, sound by Gareth Fry, special effects by Jeremy Chernick, illusions by Jamie Harrison and musical supervision by Martin Lowe.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions, Colin Callender‘s Playground Entertainment and Harry Potter Theatrical Productions.

Casting hasn’t yet been announced but come on who isn’t hoping they’ve brought back Daniel Radcliff? I mean, I would be running to the theatre to queue for it literally now – and yeah it’s not even gonna be out until Summer 2016 so that’s how long I’d camp outside for it…..

The world Premiere is 30th July 2016 but preview tickets are going on sale from 30th October so if you want a ticket you better sign up now for priority booking!! I’m certainly going to!

Book Characters that the Movies Got So Wrong or So Right

I don’t know about you but I just LOVE seeing movie adapatations of books that I’ve read. But one major thing that makes or breaks the film for me is if they got the cast right for the characters…

City of Bones:

Right: Clary

I think they got Clary perfect with Lily Collins! I was over the moon but then……then I saw Jace…

Wrong: Jace

This meme just sums it up for me! I actually genuinely wanted Alex Pettyfer (top) to play Jace he was the first actor that sprang to mind when I heard it was going to be a film. But no…..they cast Jamie Campbell Bower…

And the biggest joke of all is that Lily Collins and Jamie Campbell Bower are a genuine couple! Maybe I’m not seeing the attraction here? But I’m pretty sure she’s out of his league…

Maze Runner (Scorch Trials):

Right: Minho and Thomas

In my eyes these two guys were cast to perfection! And in all honestly I fancy them both just a little 😍

Wrong: Brenda

I was so excited about finding out who was gonna be cast as Brenda. Rosa Salazar just didn’t look right to me. My suggestion would have been Alexandra Daddario from Percy Jackson but that’s just me…

Divergent:

Right: Tris

I wasn’t completely sold on Shailene Woodley but when I saw her in the film I think she really pulled it off!

Wrong: Christina

Christina was all wrong lookswise I would personally have chosen Karidja Touré from Girlhood…

Fifty Shades of Grey

Right: Christian Grey

I loved Jamie Dornan in The Fall and when I heard he was playing Christian Grey I was thrilled! He played a sexually charged psychopath in The Fall so….you do the maths – okay so maybe his northern irish accent slipped through occassionally but was anyone really focusing on his -ahem- accent

Wrong: Anastasia Steele

Dakota Johnson was just all wrong for me BUT she won me over because of her seriiouuss bravery in this role. I mean, how many girls would get butt naked for that amount of time knowing full well everyone you went to school with is gonna be sitting in the frint row on release day. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

I would have chosen someone like….

Considering that Fifty Shades was originally Twilight fanfiction and the fact that Kristen Stewart was the perfect Bella in my eyees (though I’m not generally a fan of her outside of Twilight….). I don’t think she should have done it but someone closer to her looks would have been right for Anastasia.

Harry Potter

Right: Snape

I think they got a lot of characters right in Harry Potter including the main three but could any of them have walked straight out of the book and into the film like Snape did? There wasn’t a single greasy strand of hair on his head that was wrong

Wrong: Ginny

Ginny was so wrong and I think it was because they cast her so early and they didn’t know the part she was gonna play in the end…could they have recast her? Probably. But did they? Not even a little…

Here’s my choice Rachel Hurd Wood from Peter Pan

I’ve been nominated for the 3 days, 3 quotes challenge!

Firstly I want to say a hugggeeeeee thank you to the Fiction Fairy for nominating me. You can check out her blog here ( It’s really worth it!!)

So without further ado I give you my Day One Quote:

I was going to quote Harry Potter but I thought hmmm you all know the best Harry P quotes so instead I chose a quote from Alan Rickman who plays Snape in the films (He is a legend!). And (for those of you who know the books well) this quote is absolute genius…

How to be a Successful Writer (Using the Hogwarts’ Houses Method)

Writing takes a combination of skill, determination and passion and I think this can be broken down using what I like to call the Hogwarts’ Houses Method (that’s right!)

The first thing you need to be as you begin your writers journey is brave!

Yes! No writing will get done until you switch off that little voice inside your head that tells you that you can’t do it. Forget the fear of being judged and Gryffindor the hell out of that first draft!

If you want to (and I bet you do) think of that evil little voice as voldemort….and who does he think he is anyway?!

Now you’ve got to have a few brain cells to rub together to get down to business with the rewrite (don’t worry just a few!) So this is the part where you can stroke your chin thoughtfully and take a leaf out of Rowena Ravenclaws book. Take your time and perfect the writing to the best of your ability!

Once you send your work off to Literary Agents you may find yourself in the place that most writers do; rejected. So we need to be extra Hufflepuff here people! They aren’t phased by anything and are suuuuupppppper patient. These are qualitites that you’ll need to succeed ultimately. You need to play the lonngggg game but, with a bit of hufflepuff loyalty to your writing, it’ll be more likely to pay off!

And some people mock Hufflepuff so I thought I’d give this little reminder…

Finally! You’re allowed to go a little Slytherin (gasp!) that’s right, even they have some qualities you’ll need. Just a little sprinkle of cunning…

No I’m not saying go write your name in blood on the walls near the chamber of secrets! (But that sure would be one hell of a promotion technique if you did!) I’m just saying you need to be imaginitive to help achieve what you want. If you wana get your book out there through traditional means or self-publishing you have to find creative ways to promote yourself! Connect with people! Make other cunning little friends and help them to achieve their goals in return! But please people let’s not become death eaters about it…

Whisper in people’s ears! This might work for you. Or better still, tweet, blog and network!

And remember, there’s thousands of free ways to promote your work so don’t splash out too much money on this – you’ll only get muggled off….

Thanks for reading!
